Hyphen the World Virtual Internship in India

Hello to everyone reading this! You can call me HK. I did my internship in India with Hyphen the World. The exact location of my organization was Himachal Pradesh.

A little bit about the program

My experience was virtual due to Covid-19 since traveling was still not allowed. I chose this program, because it sounds interesting. Also, the organizing in this program had a lot of projects that could teach me a lot. This also helped me make an impact in the community. Also, taught me a lot about the community and the culture in India even thought it was virtual. The challenge for me was to get people involved in my project. I overcame it by figuring out who would be interested in my English buddy program. I think I got out a lot of mobilizing skills and figuring out time zones, which I would not learn in a classroom. I got to learn a lot from the girls in my organization too like how some social issue intersect with issues here and there.

Sajhe Sapne

Even though my interview was done with an organization called Pravah, which is in New Delhi, they gave me two options for my organization after the interview. I chose Sajhe Sapne did the project they gave me. Which was creating an English buddy program with student from USA. This project helped me get to know their students really well. Also, their level in learning English. I was also, gave a supervisor from this organization. Her name was Shalini I connected with her really well. We got to know each other really well. I also got a mentor from Pravah whosename was Neha, she was a really helpful resource to have, and I also got to know her really well too.

The End

I think everyone should explore at least one study abroad experience, because you learn a lot from these experiences no matter if they are in-person or virtual. There is always someone to help you overcome the challenge you will face in your project like your mentor and supervisor, so always asking for help when you need it is my advice to you. Also, remember to have fun with the project. Hope you enjoy your experience.
