With this being my last and final class to graduate, my study abroad experience was the absolute perfect way to finish my college career! This international experience has allowed me to gain more knowledge around my desired field which is nonprofit work through a social lens and has allowed me to connect the intersectionality of social work and the type of nonprofit work I want to go into. I have also been able to gain new perspectives and expand my viewpoints on ways of living. I even got to step out of my comfort zone a little and speak a language I was not use to speaking in the pursuit of trying to connect with the community of people I met in León, even though I only had the knowledge of my high school Spanish classes and the ability of a small child in terms of dictation and sentence structure, the effort made all the difference and I was able to still communicate and connect with a culture and people I wasn’t normally used to and it made all the difference. Overall, I am so grateful that I got to be a part of the Sounds of Social Justice study abroad program. I feel like I can take on the world with the experiences I have now!
